Global Citizen Adventure Corps (GCAC) is the featured organization on “Tennessee is Talking,” a weekly segment on WLJT-TV, West Tennessee’s Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). GCAC is featured during the March 2025 airings.
In an interview conducted by veteran TV personality and news anchor Tom Britt, GCAC’s co-founders, Stacie Freeman, M.S.S.W., and Dr. Julie Hill, discussed their organization’s mission and experiences in leading student and adult groups to global destinations. Together, they bring over 35 years of experience in K-12 education, university teaching, administration, and nonprofit leadership. Both have personally led numerous global studies programs for hundreds of students and community members to various destinations.
“Tennessee is Talking” highlights local changemakers, small business owners, activists, and others from diverse backgrounds across West Tennessee. The show covers community issues, events in local neighborhoods, school initiatives, arts and culture, and much more, aiming to amplify the many untold stories that reflect life in Tennessee. The co-founders of GCAC have traveled to Brazil, Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador, Guatemala, France, Italy, Nicaragua, Panama, Cuba, Mexico, Thailand, and Trinidad and Tobago. They have trips planned for 2025 to Cuba, France, Mexico, Brazil, Honduras, Colombia, and Costa Rica. The 2026 planned trips include Ireland, Scotland, Japan, West Africa, and more.
Founded in the summer of 2022, Global Citizen Adventure Corps is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Its mission is to facilitate service-based travel opportunities for young people from underrepresented backgrounds who might not have such opportunities otherwise. Three hours of college credit in Global Service Learning and Citizenship are available for high school and college students, along with scholarships to help fund the travels for those who need assistance.
GCAC strives to make the dreams of students who seek firsthand knowledge of the world a reality through service to their local and global communities.
The nonprofit offers a range of travel opportunities, including student-only trips, trips for students and adults, and trips for civic, church and business groups. These programs can be pre-planned or custom-designed for individual group needs and interests.
